Correction to text

It concerns the sentence beginning on the eleventh line down on page 247.  The sentence reads:
“Then the surface layer may possibly be heated sufficiently to vapourise the asteroid, and blast it at high speed into space.”

It should read:
“Then the surface layer may possibly be heated sufficiently to vapourise it, and blast it at high speed into space.”

In other words, ‘the asteroid’ should be replaced by ‘it’ – a small change grammatically, but a huge change in the meaning of the sentence, and in the understanding of the deflection technique.  You may wish to amend the text in your copy of the book.

This error, and several others were introduced at the production stage by an over-enthusiastic copy editor, who seemed to think they knew what I wanted to say better than I did!  I caught the majority of such errors at the proof reading stage, but missed this one.  Apologies.
